So why did I specialise in this area?
I started my working life as a nurse and happily continued on that path for 17 years. I only gave up my registration as I became too busy with my acupuncture clinic.
During my nursing I developed an interest in complementary medicine believing that complementary and conventional medicine could work together.
Training
I trained for three years as an acupuncturist and after qualifying I worked in general practice.I decided to pursue an interest in fertility and women’s health and set about completing further training in this specialist practice.
I travelled overseas to lectures by specialists in the field and did numerous online courses with specialists too far away to travel to. After approaching Origin Fertility Clinic and doing in-house training, learning the various tests and procedures I became their acupuncturist and whenever patients inquired about acupuncture they were given my details.
Zita West is one of the most well known fertility and pregnancy acupuncturists in the UK and I became one of her affiliated practitioners many years ago. I have access to her clinic and experience and regularly attend courses. There are only two acupuncturists in N. Ireland who are affiliates.
I have been working in this area for over 20 years and see all areas of fertility from it just taking a little longer than expected right though to IVF, egg donation and surrogacy. My clients attend many of the clinics in the United Kingdom and further afield in Europe and USA.
Thanks to my clients
My most precious source of education is from my clients. I cannot thank them enough for their honesty and (especially in the early days) for their patience! I continue to be amazed by what medical science can do but most of my amazement comes in my day to day dealings with couples who are quietly dealing with a situation that impacts every molecule of their being.
I would not work with any other speciality now – I am totally hooked.
